VSEP SUMMER EVENTS

Posted on Thursday June 03, 2010 2:01 am

Join us for our Quarterly Dinner on July 10 with guest speaker Priscilla Feral.  Priscilla is President of the International organization Friends of Animals, which provides programs and services for wild and domestic animals worldwide.  She's also president of Primarily Primates, an organization based in Texas which runs a 78-acre sanctuary for nearly 400 chimpanzees, monkeys and other animals released from the pet trade, show business and research laboratories.

Priscilla has written two cookbooks, The Best of Vegan Cooking and Dining with Friends: The Art of North American Vegan Cuisine and will sign copies at the dinner.

Make plans to attend our Quarterly Dinner at the Sunland Park Holiday Inn on July 10 for a tasty vegan buffet and Priscilla's talk which is entitled Apes, Monkeys and a Cuisine with a Cause.  Please see our Calendar of Events for reservation information on this and all other VSEP summer events.  And please notice that the dinner starts a half hour later than usual, meet and greet at 6:30 pm, dinner at 7:00.

On July 11, during a Music Under the Stars concert at the Chamizal National Memorial, VSEP will have a literature table under a tent on the park grounds. The concert will be rock music by Sleepercar. We need some volunteers to help pass out trash bags to the crowd and manage the VSEP info table. If you would like to help, call me or email me at vegetexan@aol.com. For giving out the trash bags for the park, we not only get the table, but also a few minutes onstage during intermission, to talk about our vegetarian society and drop a few hints.  Come on, call me to volunteer, you know you love loud rock music.

On Saturday, July 24, at Sukie's home, there will be a Raw Foods Preparation Class presented by Mark Trippett from the Life Restoration Center. It's about time VSEP did a raw Uncooking Class. I recently read Becoming Raw by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina.  I consider it to be the ultimate book on raw veganism, explaining the scientific reasons why including a lot more raw food in our diet is a good idea. Brenda will be a June guest on our radio show ACT, which you can hear on ktep.org.

VSEP has many fun events planned for the summer, including Restaurant Hoppers in June, July and August.  Voyager outings are also planned for those months.

We just learned that the Good Times Store at 12900 Edgemere is going to start selling vegan items including Gardein products, Boca burgers, Lightlife products, vegenaise, soyrizo and other items. Let's show this store our support and hopefully other convenience stores will follow their lead.

One other thing I wanted to mention...this summer our board of directors meetings have moved to the back room at the Singapore Cafe. Much better food and the owner is a VSEP member.

Check our Calendar and please get back in touch with us.  We could use your help to keep VSEP going strong.
